Our Origins

Born from a belief that travel should educate, not just entertain.

Odyssey Traveller was originally developed by a consortium of universities across Australia, New Zealand and Asia with a single purpose: to create escorted, educational journeys for mature travellers who wanted more from travel than a blur of monuments and hotel lobbies.


That founding philosophy has never changed. Every Odyssey itinerary is built around genuine learning — not just sightseeing. Our travellers arrive curious and leave knowing far more about the places, peoples and histories they've encountered. We take you to Mongolia to dig for dinosaurs. To Portugal to trace the Age of Discovery. To the Scottish Isles to understand a culture that most tourists never reach.

Why Odyssey

Small group travel, done properly.

We are not a large coach operator that calls itself "small group." We are genuinely small — 6 to 14 travellers per group — which changes every aspect of the experience.

One table at dinner

With 6 to 14 travellers, the whole group sits together. You share meals, insights, and stories rather than being assigned to a random sub-table of a 45-person coach group.

Expert local guides

Every tour is accompanied by knowledgeable local guides — historians, archaeologists, naturalists — who bring their own passion to the places you visit. Not scripted commentary, real expertise.

No hidden extras

Entry fees, tipping, most meals and all ground transport are included. The price you see is the price you pay, with one clearly stated single supplement for solo travellers.

Good 3 & 4 star hotels

We stay 2 to 3 nights in each location — long enough to properly absorb a place — in comfortable, well-located hotels. Reliable, not flashy. The experience is the focus.

For Solo Travellers

Travelling solo is not the same as travelling alone.

Solo travellers make up more than 40% of every Odyssey group. Many are travelling independently for the first time. Many are repeat travellers who have discovered that a small group of like-minded people is simply a better way to see the world.


There is a clearly stated single supplement on all tours — one transparent charge, nothing hidden. We can also assist with pairing solo travellers who wish to share accommodation. Free time is built into every itinerary so you can explore independently whenever you choose.
